Lean > Kaizen or Lean Events

Oriel STAT A MATRIX can help you apply Lean in your organization through the implementation of kaizen or Lean Event.

Kaizen, which means “good change” in Japanese, is a philosophy of eliminating waste by making small changes for the better.  Kaizen or Lean Events are typically short-term projects with a specific improvement objective. During an event, a team, led by a lean expert, analyzes and improves a process. Lean Events are flexible and have a high return on investment because the improvement is rapid. Lean Events are typically 4 to 10 days and generally include the following activities:

  • Lean training
  • Defining problem/goals
  • Observing and documenting the current state
  • Brainstorming and developing a future state
  • Implementation
  • Developing a follow-up plan
  • Presenting results
  • Celebrating success

Our Lean consultants have facilitated hundreds of Lean Events ranging from manufacturing improvements to business process improvements. Events are usually driven by top management. Problems are identified for a quick fix, such as rapid improvement in quality, cost, or timeliness through elimination of waste. Our Lean Pathway model helps drive the scope of the project, and to choose the appropriate Lean tools to use during the event. Most important, Lean Events provide a hands-on Lean learning experience that team members can apply in their jobs every day.
